Synopsis

It is a great source of encouragement to us that, in its account of the lives of even its best known characters, the Bible is always realistic. It does not disguise the fact that they had a nature just like ours, and as such they were prone to periods of fear or doubt or worry. Taking examples from Matthew’s Gospel, David Gooding looks at how these three ‘unwelcome visitors’ can be overcome in our own lives.

The second talk invites us to consider the question, ‘what will make heaven, heaven?’ We find that it has nothing to do with the external surroundings—glorious though they will be—but rather with the way people behave in heaven. It will be the way the Saviour behaves toward us, and the way we behave towards him and towards one another. The challenge for us is that, as far as it is possible, we should seek to behave here and now in the way that people are going to behave when they get to heaven.
