Synopsis

As the Apostle Paul sat down to write to the Gentile believers in Ephesus, it must have been with a great sense of rejoicing at the truths which God, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, had prompted him to convey to them. He will tell them how those who were once ‘far off’ have been ‘brought near’ through the sacrifice of God’s son. Having begun merely as God’s creatures, they can become God’s children, and be heirs, joint heirs, with Christ. And the seemingly unbridgeable gap between Jew and Gentile will disappear as both, on equal terms, come to be part of the Body of Christ and share in Christ’s eternal glory.

It is evident that as David Gooding guides us in our consideration of what Paul has written, he too has been caused to rejoice at the spectacular grace of God to fallen humanity, a plan which God had devised even before creation.
