Attitude to a Traditional Church

David Gooding

For some people, the word ‘traditional’ suggests church practices which are longstanding and therefore potentially outmoded and no longer appropriate or relevant to the present day. In this talk, David Gooding encourages us to examine our ‘traditions’ and assess the extent to which they carry the clear authority of holy Scripture or are the product of human invention.

Those which pass the test of Scripture are to be preserved, and observed. Any which are found to be contrary to Scripture should immediately be jettisoned. Then there are those traditional practices which are not in either category and need to be considered on their merits, in terms of their usefulness to the life and work of the local church.
