Help me read the Bible better: The Genius of Jesus' Teaching

2:30 for 3pm start

What if Jesus’ stories are far more intricate than we’ve realized? Drawing on years of research behind his book The Surprising Genius of Jesus, Dr Peter J. Williams will take us back into the Gospels to uncover the Old Testament echoes, linguistic skill, and narrative artistry that show Jesus to be the greatest teacher of all time. And he will help us to see how Jesus’ use of story, Scripture, and understanding of the human heart reshapes how we proclaim the gospel both personally and in public teaching.

Why a ploughboy should read the Bible: Tyndale's vision for everyone to know God's Word today

7:30 for 8pm start

Five hundred years after William Tyndale, why does his vision still matter? Dr Peter J. Williams will explore with us how Tyndale’s passion to put Scripture into ordinary hands lives on and what it means for us to take the Bible seriously in our own generation.

Every Christian today stands in the debt of William Tyndale, who risked and finally gave his life so that ordinary believers—not only clergy—could read the New Testament in their own language and judge all teaching by Scripture. Five hundred years after the 1526 Tyndale New Testament, Dr Williams will show how Tyndale’s passion to put the Bible into the hands of ‘the boy that driveth the plough’ still challenges the church to make sure every believer can know, love, and understand God’s Word for themselves—so that whole congregations become confident, discerning Bible readers who can stand firm in a confused age.
